About Shamus Brady
My own personal health challenge was overcoming childhood obesity. When I was sixteen, I weighed 240 pounds. I was constantly made fun of and felt embarrassed and isolated because of my weight. During my junior year of high school, I finally gained the courage and strength to lose weight and become healthy. On my own, I changed my diet and started working out twice a day: I ran a mile before and after school and lifted weights at the gym every night. Through diet and exercise, I lost the weight. I have maintained my ideal body weight for 12 years now. This experience completely changed my life and compelled me to help others who were overweight. Thus, when I was eighteen, I became a personal trainer. This was the first time that I realized that I could use my career to directly make a difference in someone's life. Not only could I help them improve their health and quality of life, but also I could help prevent deadly diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. This is very exciting and rewarding for me.
